Texas-style barbecue with a real kids menu and a large fenced backyard for cornhole and running around. The green space is the difference between eating with children here and carrying barbecue home.
A taproom inside a former ice plant on Hendricks. The building does a lot of the work here, and a beer list has no way of saying so.
A Mexican kitchen and bar at Jacksonville Beach with its own vegan menu. Enchiladas, quesadillas, jackfruit birria, cauliflower tacos, and a full vegan entree give a mixed table more than one safe fallback.
Folio Weekly described a small strip-mall spot at the Gate Parkway exit, with an Ikea across the street, when it reviewed the place in 2023 under the earlier owners. Its own site says it has been under new ownership since August 2024, and it offers vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free starters.

Nobody publishes the noise level, and it is the thing that decides the night.
Good places to eat and drink in Jacksonville, minus the nightclubs. When a spot gets loud later or draws a lot of kids, the card tells you.

A St. Johns Avenue bistro that started as a 37-seat coffeehouse in 1993 and grew into one of the village's anchors. The covered patio faces the avenue, and the dessert case is still part of the reason people walk in.
The former All Spiced Up shop grew into a wine bar, bodega, and small market without leaving the avenue. The back lounge handles wine flights and live music, while the sidewalk seats keep it connected to the village outside.
Live music some nights. Go before the band starts if you want to talk.
Brothers Nick and Zachary Presti opened this 1,200 square foot breakfast counter on Mayport Road in April 2024, built to look like a New York bodega. MICHELIN Recommended it in 2026 for the egg sandwiches, singling out a chicken biscuit with redeye aioli.
The Riverside room of a Jacksonville family-owned group that has been here for more than 40 years. On Mondays, children age 12 and younger get a free meal and juice box with a regular adult entree and beverage at all three locations.
A casual Jax Beach breakfast and lunch counter with separate weekday and weekend kids breakfast sections. It works after an early beach morning because the menu understands that children may want breakfast long after the adults have moved on.
Scratch cooking on Oak Street with vegan and gluten-free built into the menu rather than bolted onto it. A vegan order here is a normal order, which is a different thing from a substitution.
A full brunch room near the beach with a real vegan section, not one modified plate. Vegan pancakes, French toast, tofu scrambles, breakfast tacos, sausage, chorizo, and JUST Egg make this the useful answer when breakfast is the point of the trip.
A coffee shop and scratch kitchen inside a historic building in the heart of the village. The rooms move from morning coffee to dinner and private events, while the covered dog-friendly patio stays tied to St. Johns Avenue outside.
